Can you legally represent yourself in a court of law? Totally. Should you? Probably not, so you hire a lawyer. Looking at purchasing/selling property in the same fashion, real estate agents are essentially House Lawyers. I first met Ms. Barton back in mid 2006 when the home that I was renting was put on the market by the owners. At the time, I was not ready to purchase a home, so I was just looking for another, comparable rental. I happened to come across her name while looking at a few homes in the Bowie area, but I had also been in contact with several other realtors. Because the market was still semi-booming at the time, three of the realtors I had contacted, decided not to work with me because I wanted to rent and not buy. Ms. Barton was the only one who stuck in there with me and I eventually found a rental property in Crofton. Fast forward two years later, the owners of my rental property wanted to sell to me. The price they were asking was WAYYYY too high and they wanted to sell the house to me "as is" (no repairs, painting, etc)! I had stayed in contact with Ms. Barton over the years, so it was a no brainer that she would definitely be the person I was going to work with on purchasing a house. After much searching, she found the perfect home for me and I closed in October, 2008. I cannot begin to express how happy I am in my new home! Ms. Barton provided outstanding customer service ... Ms. Barton is diligent, knowledgeable and highly professional. She made sure that every home I saw had the exact requirements that I requested and she had a clear understanding of what I would be able to afford. With her, it wasn't about making a sale but finding a home that I could afford and grow in to. She definitely made the first time home buyer experience a true pleasure.
