Natural Recipes for Repellants

Cedar Oil Repellent Recipe:

Mix four ounces of distilled or boiled water, witch hazel, and 30-50 drops of cedar oil in a spray bottle. Cedar oil spray can be applied to clothes, skin, as well as on plants. It’s also considered safe for use on children & pets.

Tick & Mosquito Repellent Recipe:

Mix two ounces of witch hazel or rubbing alcohol, 10 drops of citronella and 10 drops of lemon eucalyptus essential oil in a glass spray bottle. Shake well before us. Not safe for use on pets or children under three years of age.

or

1 tablespoon of carrier oil (almond oil or jojoba oil) plus 9 drops of citronella essential oil, 6 drops of tea tree essential oil, 6 drops of peppermint essential oil.

Biting Fly & Gnat Repellent Recipe:

Mix two ounces of witch hazel or rubbing alcohol, 10 drops of peppermint and 10 drops of lavender essential oil in a glass spray bottle. Shake well before use. Not safe for use on pets or children under three years of age.

SAFETY NOTES: Always patch test on the inside of your forarm 24-hours before use to determine your reaction your skin to determine your reaction tolerance. If you are pregnant, ask your physician before applying any essential oil to the skin. Some essential oils like pennyroyal and clary sage are not safe to use during pregnancy. Most essential oils are also not recommended for use on cats at all due to their liver enzymes. Talk to your veterinarian for recommendations for cats. 

TICK REMOVAL: Never put a substance directly on the tick if it is still attached to your skin. This may agitate the tick and cause it to force infected fluid into your skin. Only remove ticks with tweezers or a proper device, such as a tick key.
